Strike Action Continues

We recently shared an update regarding the industrial action that was likely to take place during the festive period. The industrial action would see postal and rail services delayed or cancelled throughout this busy time. In this first working week following the festive period, many employers will be impacted by the latest set of rail strikes.

Throughout the week we will continue to see further rail strikes scheduled for today, Friday 6th, and Saturday 7th.

In addition to rail strikes this week, there are also planned strike action with buses, road traffic officers and other national highways workers.

What can employers do?

Employers should, if possible, support flexible working to help employees manage their travel and work commitments and to limit the impact on productivity whilst industrial action is taking place. Of course, not all roles can operate at home, so for those employees who end up coming into work late because of the disruption, consider flexing any rules in place around lateness.

Alternatively, where start and end times can be flexed, consider offering this as a way for employees to avoid a commute during peak times when other modes of transport will be put under additional pressure.

Strike action will continue to take place throughout January, including continuation of strikes for the bus service, ambulance and nurses.
