The Employment Rights Act 2025 (ERA) is the biggest overhaul of UK employment law in a generation, bringing significant changes to redundancy law and increasing the legal and financial risks for employers.

The maximum protective award for failures in collective redundancy consultation has already increased, with further reforms on the way, including changes to collective redundancy thresholds and tribunal awards. Businesses should act now by reviewing their redundancy procedures, updating policies, planning for future costs and ensuring managers are trained to handle redundancy processes lawfully.
