No Falls Week

According to statistics published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) it has been identified that tragically, between 2022 and 2023, the main cause of fatalities at work was due to falls from a height. This resulted in 40 workers losing their lives.

Launching the first No Falls Week

This year, the first ever No Falls Week will run between the 13 and 17 May, a campaign launched by the No Falls Foundation. The foundation is the first and only UK charity which is exclusively devoted to those in the work at height sector and is dedicated to the prevention of falls from height and to supporting those who suffer life-changing injuries and consequences as a result of such a fall.

Participation and resources

The No Falls Foundation are welcoming organisations and employers to register their interest in supporting the campaign and are making available materials to provide life-saving information and to promote awareness, including social media toolkits, factsheets, posters, infographics, reports and videos.

Regulatory framework and compliance

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 implement European Council Directive 2001/45/EC concerning minimum health and safety requirements for the use of equipment for work at height. The Regulations apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury and the Regulations cover work at any height). They place duties on employers, the self-employed and any person that controls the work of others to the extent of their control (for example, facilities managers or building owners who may contract others to work at height).

The provision of instruction or leadership in caving or climbing by way of sport, recreation, team building or similar activities is covered under the Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations 2007.
