Apprentices

With the end of this year’s The Apprentice on the BBC we believe that it is worthwhile revisiting what the benefits are of the Government’s Apprentice Scheme, as already discussed in our April News Bulletin.

The Government’s Apprentice Scheme, is designed to help young employees into work, at the same time as providing businesses across all sectors with an opportunity to harness fresh new talent.

Taking on an apprentice can help fill junior roles whilst at the same time enabling them to gain practical work skills and through local providers also gain an appropriate National Vocational Qualification (NVQ).

Getting the right apprentice for your business is important, and you should ensure that you meet with your local provider to explain the role you want the apprentice to fill as well as the type of business that you want for your business.

Taking on an apprentice can be from as little as £80.00 per week, but most Companies pay between £100 - £120 per week, which is still below the Tax and National Insurance threshold which means that you will not have to pay any Employer National Insurance Contributions or Tax.

If this is something that you wish to consider further then you can contact the LSC who will be able to put you in contact with a local provider who will be able to assist you through this process.
