Carol has worked in the HR sector for decades, gaining substantial knowledge and experience.

Carol’s career actually began with journalistic training and a job at IPC Magazines Ltd, before she took her shorthand skills to secretarial and PA roles. When Carol married she moved to Kettering, and obtained a position in the HR department of an engineering company. Here she was given the opportunity to study for the Institute of Personnel Management (now CIPD) qualification.

She completed the qualification over three years, and then moved into increasingly senior roles in the fields of automotive engineering, electronic engineering, general manufacturing and high-tech engineering. In 1998 Carol was hired to set up the HR Department of the fledgling British American Racing F1 team in Brackley (now Mercedes AMG).

In June 2001 Carol left BAR to launch HR Solutions and immediately built an impressive client list, seeing the business go from strength to strength over the next decade and beyond. In April 2014 Carol passed overall control of the business to her son Greg Guilford, and assumed the role of Director of Consultancy.

Carol’s Q&A’s

What’s your greatest personal achievement?

I have several; raising twins, passing my IPM and setting up HR Solutions on my own, achieving the status of Fellow of the CIPD. Most importantly though I would say coming through cancer treatment, and now having a wonderful family with six grandchildren to enjoy.

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t worry about the past, don’t worry about the future; there’s nothing you can do about either of them; you can only change what you do today. Live each day as it comes.

What’s your favourite album?

I have an eclectic taste in music from my 60s/70s background up to today’s music, but I guess my heart is in rock music, such as Pink Floyd, Genesis, etc.

What do you wish other people knew about HR Solutions?

Just how good we are at managing the diverse issues that our clients bring to us. It’s thanks to the collective experience of our consultants, who come from a range of different backgrounds and experiences to manage these. For what started as a family business we have built a great support team that improves the service we can provide to our clients.
